Kids and cyber safety (how can we protect them)

Kids these days grow up using technology.Even the baby toys incorporate technology so it is no wonder that kids can't do without computers or ipads or smart phones.

The best we can do is keep them safe and protect them from cyber threats. An innocent search can sometimes bring up quite unexpected results.

Here are some simple tips to do that, readers please do use the comments section if you find there are other tools out there

1. Set your browser search to safety mode using a password

    Google search

There seem to be other kids search engines, though I have not used them do not know how effective they are, one such search is Kids Search

2. Set youtube safety mode on

3. At periodic intervals monitor the history on your child's computer (if they are young) to see if these settings still do not stop the inappropriate material from showing up. Of course your teens may not really like this idea

4. For devices such as ipad or iphone there are apps such as mobicip for safe browsing, ranger browser and netnanny

5. There are apps to limit the time on the device as well so that your kids don't use them when you are not around such as Timelock and parental time lock.

6. To protect your kids from all types of browsers and also manage the time spent on the computer you can use K9. This is a well known parental control software for windows or mac.
