HSPT is a placement test for eight graders to get admission to high schools. It is mostly used by private schools and catholic schools.
This is the official website for HSPT. It is ideal to have your child start preparing for HSPT towards the end of 7th grade. Usually private middle schools do a good job of preparing the kids for HSPT however if your child is going to a public middle school, please try to ensure they spend additional time in preparation.
This is a good blog for HSPT and will help you understand the format of the test and other details. The exam is usually administered during January of 8th grade. Private high schools consider the grades from 7th grade, 1 semester of 8th grade and the HSPT scores for admissions.
